Manchester United are in talks with Aston Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton about a Bosman return.
Third-choice stopper Sergio Romero is leaving and The Telegraph says as a replacement, United are on the verge of bringing Heaton back to Old Trafford for his second spell at the club.
The veteran goalkeeper is currently second-choice at Aston Villa, losing his place to former Arsenal keeper Emiliano Martinez, who signed after Heaton's season-ending knee injury in 2020.
Despite returning in December, Heaton has not yet featured for Villa this season, and is said to be looking for a route back to United.
The 35-year-old joined United's academy in 2002, but didn't feature for the club in his five years as a professional.
