Manchester United FA Cup winner Paul McGrath says new manager Ralf Rangnick needs to lift his ambitions.

McGrath has suggested Rangnick faces a huge task to breach the gap that has opened up between United and the three best teams in the Premier League.

"Not only are Chelsea, City and Liverpool fantastic teams, they are also hard to dislike," he told the Sunday World.

"As a United man, I want Liverpool and City to lose, but how can you not enjoy watching those two sides.

"Also, you have to say their managers are wonderful for the game. They have such a great philosophy on football and when you turn on your TV to watch them, Liverpool and City rarely disappoint.

"Chelsea are also such a strong team and that's why Rangnick has such a tough task to get United back in the mix with those sides.

"It's okay saying he wants to steady the ship at United, but you need to do more than that to compete with these three teams. They are some of the best we have seen in English football.

"There is a chance to get fourth place, but United need more than that. They have to win trophies every season at that club. Rangnick will know that, but it's tough when the competition is so strong. At the moment, United are miles behind."
