Man Utd have “no chance” of signing Dani Olmo in the January transfer window but could be in the mix for a summer deal, according to reports.

The RB Leipzig attacking midfielder has been attracting interest from numerous clubs with Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid all linked with a move.

A report at the beginning of this month claimed that Man Utd had made an ‘offer’ for the Spain international with the Red Devils seeing Olmo as a ‘really interesting reinforcement’.

However, nothing has come of the reported bid and now BILD reporter Christian Falk claims that there is “no chance” Man Utd sign Olmo in this transfer window.

Falk wrote in his Caught Offside column: “No chance of a January transfer for Dani Olmo. We heard that talks with Olmo for a new contract are far along, so it seems he will extend his stay with RB Leipzig.

“The good news for interested clubs like Manchester United is that Olmo has a clear wish to move to the Spanish top-flight, so he’s going to get two different release clauses in his contract – they haven’t been signed yet but we think they’ll be added.

“One that allows clubs to sign him for €70-75m but another where, if Barcelona or Real Madrid are knocking on his door, he can leave for €60m.

“I think, if United are still interested, they’ve got a chance there.”

Jadon Sancho has not played for Man Utd since October after Erik ten Hag pointed to “physical and mental” struggles that the England international is going through.

He recently re-joined team-mates in first-team training at Carrington but it is still unclear when Sancho – who joined Man Utd for £72m in 2021 – will be back.

And now transfer expert Fabrizio Romano insists the Red Devils’ “priority” is to get Sancho back playing for Man Utd and not a loan move away from the club in the winter window.

“The priority for Manchester United is to have him back with the first team,” Romano said on his YouTube channel. “I mean, in the game time when he will be 100 per cent ready, this is why he wasn’t available in the last few games.

“Even if he is back training with the squad, Erik Ten Hag and his coaching staff are working on and with Jadon Sancho, they want him to be 100 per cent ready on a mental point-of-view and a physical point-of-view, so the market is not a solution.

“As of now, they want to protect the player and to have Sancho for the second part of the season in very good condition.”
