Manchester United will have the eyes of the world on them when they take to the pitch for the 2022/23 season.
The Old Trafford club are currently in a state of flux as they desperately scramble to maintain their Champions League status under the interim management of Ralf Rangnick.
It’s quietly acknowledged that the Red Devils will be appointing a new permanent manager in the summer with the likes of Mauricio Pochettino and Erik ten Hag tipped to lead United into their new era.
There are also real doubts about the future of Cristiano Ronaldo as he strides towards the halfway-point of his contract, while the pressure to deliver a title challenge will once again be piled on in the summer.
All this is to say that United will be under real scrutiny once the 2022/23 campaign gets underway and it’s incredibly tough to imagine how they might be lining up across everything from coaches to players.
However, if there is one thing that we can start to predict about the Premier League giants next season, then it’s how they might look… in terms of their kits.

Yes, that’s right, it’s the time of year where information about the following season’s jerseys start to emerge, piquing fans’ interest in what their beloved players will be sporting for the next eight months.
Besides, while kit designs ultimately don’t matter in the grand scheme of a sporting context, it only takes an iconic season for that year’s corresponding jersey to be remembered for decades to come.
And the earliest information about United’s potential third kit for the 2022/23 season certainly promises to be memorable with Adidas’ touted design going down like a lead balloon with the majority of fans.
That’s because the ever-reliable Footy Headlines have “created a mock-up” of how United’s third kit might look based on the ‘leaked’ information that they’ve established – and it’s most certainly eye-catching.
They can exclusively reveal that a “chevron zig-zag design” will feature somewhere on the jersey and that the main colour combination will be “Semi Solar Slime” and navy with yellow applications and logos.
United have previously used similar colour schemes on their 2015/16 and 2021/22 goalkeepers shirts, but never for a main player jersey, so be sure to check out how the kit might look down below:
Now, although the final design could look different and the zig-zag texturing might be placed elsewhere, the touted colour scheme nevertheless ensures that the release won’t be a million miles away.
As such, you can understand why some of the unhappy fans aren’t feeling too excited about the prospect of a high-vis design and you can check out some of the prevailing, negative reactions down below:
Just by the reaction, it’s fair to say that even the zig-zag design popping up elsewhere won’t appease the fans who are unhappy with the – how shall we say it? – unsubtle colour scheme.
That being said, it’s too early to judge what the final product might look like from the projection alone, albeit from a reliable source, because kits can often look very different in action.
And third shirts are always an opportunity for kit designers to try something a little bit quirkier, so you can understand Adidas wanting to make history with United’s first high-vis jersey for outfield players.
Besides, even if worst comes to worse, you certainly won’t miss it on the shelves.
