Javier Hernandez was highly thought of by Man United fans during his five-year spell with the club.

Signed in 2010, ‘Chicharito’ played 159 times for the Red Devils and scored 59 goals. He helped them to three trophies, including two Premier League titles.

He departed the club in 2015 when he joined Bayer Leverkusen.

Now 34, Hernandez is currently playing in Major League Soccer for LA Galaxy. He appeared in MLS All-Star’s 2-1 victory against Liga MX All-Stars on Wednesday evening.

Prior to the game, Hernandez gave a very passionate interview about United’s struggles.

In the interview, posted on to YouTube by BeanymanSports, Hernandez offered to play for his former club for free. He then spoke about United’s struggles and the need to move on from Sir Alex Ferguson.

Asked whether he was surprised about United’s woes in recent years, Hernandez replied: “That’s a tricky question. Yes and no. It doesn’t surprise me because in life it’s not easy having a manager for 26 years in the way that he [Sir Alex Ferguson] did it.

“One of his greatest aptitudes, in my humble opinion, was that probably seven out of 10 players who signed for United worked out. That’s not easy, man – not for Real Madrid or Barcelona or even for Chelsea, [Manchester] City, Liverpool or Bayern Munich.

“It’s not easy to do that for 26 years, but Sir Alex was very good on the human side and the personal side to see how he could take the best out of you and how you can help the club.

“To substitute that man like that is not easy. It is like winning the lottery.

“Do you think anyone you hire afterwards is going to be able to do 80 per cent of what Ferguson did?

“My point of view is that after Ferguson brings so much pressure that it just isn’t going to work out.

“United need to now get over the fact that Sir Alex Ferguson has gone.

“Would we like to have someone similar? Yes, yes, yes. But Sir Alex has gone and it is never going to be the same.

“So United have to adapt and allow the next manager to do it in his own way.”

Hernandez went on to compare United’s situation to Liverpool’s, when the Reds had little success on the pitch in the years before appointing Jurgen Klopp in 2015.

It’s clear to see the passion Hernandez has for United.

He left the club seven years ago but remains a big fan of the club. He’s obviously hurt that United is not enjoying the same success they used to.

Given how much he cares, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him return to the club in some capacity after his playing days are over.
