Manchester United are eyeing a move for Borussia Dortmund goalkeeper Gregor Kobel this summer, according to the Independent.

The Swiss international has been one of BVB’s best and most consistent players this season. He has kept ten clean sheets in 25 Bundesliga appearances.

Kobel has been an excellent signing for Dortmund since arriving from Stuttgart in 2021 for €15 million. He displaced Roman Burki, who has moved on.

While many will only remember Kobel for his costly error against Bayern Munich, he is a massive part of why BVB are mounting a challenge in the first place.

However, Kobel could be on the move again this summer with interest from the Premier League in his services.

Manchester United head coach Erik ten Hag wants the 25-year-old as he seeks competition for David De Gea. He wants the Spaniard to stay amidst contract talks but wants another solid option.

De Gea has committed several high-profile errors this campaign despite finishing with the Premier League golden glove.

Also, he is not quick off his line, and his distribution is poor. These are aspects that are crucial to Ten Hag’s setup.

They were fundamental elements for the club when searching for a new shot-stopper.

Kobel is a fantastic shot-stopper, but he reads the game well to help his defence sweep up. He is also excellent on the ball for Edin Terzic’s men.

Kobel signed a five-year contract when he joined BVB. That deal still runs till 2026. The German club has all the leverage in negotiations.

Furthermore, they are even trying to extend his contract. He is one of the most promising keepers around. They want to keep him.

Kobel also has interest from Chelsea, with the Londoners looking for a new number one between the sticks.

World-record goalkeeper signing Kepa Arrizabalaga has been subpar, while Edouard Mendy’s form has dropped increasingly.

The Blues will sell one of the keepers this summer and try to bring in a replacement. They also have eyes on Andre Onana.
