Former Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe is reportedly ‘in talks’ with LaLiga club Real Betis as he eyes a swift return to football.

The 25-year-old left Man Utd after his contract expired in June, following Erik ten Hag’s decision not to extend his deal. He is now a free agent and has been on the lookout for a new club ever since.

Championship side Ipswich Town have been credited with an interest in Tuanzebe, but a move to the Portman Road Stadium has never materialised.

Recently promoted Premier League duo Luton Town and Sheffield United have also considered making a move for Tuanzebe this summer.

Real Betis are now thought to be leading the race for the centre-back, however, so it will be interesting to see if they can reach an agreement in the next couple of days.

Tuanzebe graduated from the Man Utd academy after playing his way through the youth teams. He was always touted to become a star int he future, winning the Young Player of the Year Award and Reserve Player of the Year Award during his time at the club.

The former England under-21s international did manage 37 appearances for the Red Devils. He was also part of the Man Utd squad that won the Europa League in 2016-17, but played the vast majority of his football elsewhere.

Three spells on loan at Aston Villa yielded some 46 games, while Tuanzebe also spent time at Italian giants Napoli, and Stoke City.

Now, according to the Daily Mail, Tuanzebe is ‘discussing a move to LaLiga with Real Betis,’ who are coached by former Manchester City and West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini.

Tuanzebe could provide competition for the likes of Luiz Felipe, Marc Bartra and German Pezzella at the Spanish club. He would also get the opportunity to play in the Europa League again, which, as mentioned, he has won before with Man Utd.

A move to Real Betis could be exactly what Tuanzebe needs to reignite his once-promising career, so it will be interesting to see if he finalises his switch to Spain soon.
