Manchester United defender Raphael Varane says this past summer was the right time to leave Real Madrid.

Varane insists he's happy with his decision.

He told Telefoot: "I needed it, I think it's a personal feeling. I need to have a new challenge, need to experience other emotions. My journey in Madrid was exceptional, above all the expectations that could be set.

"I'm leaving for a new adventure with a different atmosphere in the stadiums, another way of living, of playing football. And this is what will push me not to stay in my comfort zone, and to continue to progress, to try to be even more complete and to have an even more fulfilling career."
