Manchester United defender Brandon Williams will spend the 2023/24 season on loan with Championship club Ipswich Town.

Williams links up with former United coach Kieran McKenna, who now manages Ipswich.

McKenna steered Ipswich to automatic promotion from League One last season and has seen the team continue their stellar performance this season.

They have recorded four wins from four Championship matches and top the table.

This move should be good for Williams, as his progress has stalled due to injuries and a lack of trust from manager Erik ten Hag.

He made five appearances during Man United’s pre-season tour but could not convince the manager to give him a place in the squad.

Williams will move to the Championship, where he already has experience from his loan spell with Norwich City during the 2021/22 campaign.

Since his debut in a cup game in September 2019, Williams has featured in 51 matches for Man United.

He made his Premier League debut under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer just a month later against arch-rivals Liverpool.

Williams predominantly featured for the Under-21 last term and often captained the side in the Premier League 2.

He will hope to get his chance to shine in the second tier and deliver on the promise he showed as a young talent.

Emeran was impressive in United’s pre-season, scoring a pivotal goal against Leeds United in a 2-0 victory in Oslo. He also produced another excellent performance against RC Lens in Edinburgh.

The 20-year-old’s United career began four years ago when he joined the club from Amiens, but he is now heading to the Netherlands.
