Erik ten Hag could be forced to alter his squad to face Liverpool in the FA Cup as trusted midfielder Casemiro appears to have suffered a late injury.

It comes after the Brazil national team announced he will miss the upcoming fixtures against both England and Spain due to injury.

The news will emerge as a shocking blow to United, who are due to face bitter rivals Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-finals on Sunday afternoon.

The 32-year-old has already been sidelined for 17 games from October to January and now looks set to miss out on an important match in the team's season.

United are yet to provide an update on Casemiro, who has played all 90 minutes of their last three games. Ten Hag could select Scott McTominay in his place, as well as relying on 18-year-old star Kobbie Mainoo and Sofyan Amrabat in his absence.

In a statement released by Brazil on Sunday morning, boss Dorival Junior said: "We have just received a report from Dr Rodrigo Lasmar. From a pre-list made by the Brazilian National Team's technical committee with 50 names, 13 of them were already away due to injury at their clubs.

"Unfortunately, we also lost Casemiro. Therefore, Pepe, from Porto, a native striker who now plays as a midfielder, is called up."

The future for Casemiro remains unknown, but it is likely he will miss out on United's key fixture against Liverpool ahead of the international break. The Red Devils' next fixture comes on 30 March against Brentford.

Ten Hag is already without a number of important first-team squad members. They have no recognised left-backs with both Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia sidelined, while centre-backs Lisandro Martinez and Jonny Evans are also unavailable.
