Manchester United may have to move for Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic if they are successful in their pursuit of Ajax ace Antony due to budget constraints, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.

Erik ten Hag has overseen an eventful few months at Old Trafford but still has time to strengthen ahead of the September 1 deadline.

What is the latest Manchester United transfer news?

The Red Devils secured their fourth signing of the window last week when Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro signed on the dotted line.

Meanwhile, attacking recruits remain high on the agenda. According to Sky Sports, United are currently set to raise their £67 million bid for Antony.

They report that the player was left out of Ajax’s matchday squad over the weekend because he was ‘not mentally right’.

The Telegraph meanwhile report that PSV Eindhoven’s Cody Gakpo remains a top target with a £35 million asking price on the winger’s head.

It is understood, however, that United could fail in their pursuit of Pulisic, who moved to Chelsea for £58 million from Borussia Dortmund and on a £150,000 per-week contract, is set to snub a loan move to the Theatre of Dreams.

What has Sheth said on a deal for the American?

Sheth, however, feels that a deal could still be resurrected, particularly if United are successful in their pursuit of Antony.

The Sky Sports reporter says that financing a deal for both Antony and Gakpo could be a strain, especially if they are forced much higher in price by Ajax.

Sheth told GIVEMESPORT: “They are also, albeit an outside bet, going for Christian Pulisic. Now, I just wonder, whether that one would be more viable to do if they brought in Antony because if you’re buying Antony for £80 million, for example, then having to spend another £35 million on Gakpo, that could be one of those situations where it may not work budget-wise.”

Would Pulisic be a good signing for United?

The 23-year-old may be out of favour under Thomas Tuchel at Stamford Bridge, having failed to start any of their three Premier League games this season, but he has shown he has what it takes to cut it in the Premier League.

Since joining Chelsea he has scored 25 goals, taking his career tally to 44 and could add some much-needed cutting-edge in the final third.

He has also won plenty of silverware
