Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has introduced another round of cuts to the Manchester United training ground, with the options for lunch at the Carrington canteen reduced to soup and sandwiches for everyone except the first-team, according to the Sun.
The Red Devils coaches and analysts have not been spared and are also part of those with limited options for the mid-day meals.
Ratcliffe has continually looked for ways to drive down costs in an effort to address continuing losses at Man United since arriving a year ago, and he has taken things to another level.
The British billionaire has already axed over 250 staff members at the Old Trafford club, and it is anticipated an extra round of redundancies, possibly as many as 170, will be confirmed later this week after a staff meeting.
He also cancelled the annual Christmas party at Man United last year, increased ticket prices and ended funding for a charity dedicated to helping former Red Devils stars.
The club revealed a loss of £27.7 million in their second quarter financial results, and Ratcliffe is desperate to keep cutting costs even if it means reducing the options of meals at the training ground.
The under-18s were denied the chance to play at Old Trafford in the FA Youth Cup fifth round, saving Man United around £8,000.
It is not a whole lot of money, but every penny counts under the current administration, and more measures are expected in the coming weeks and months.
Axing over 250 staff members was expected to result in an overall saving of between £40m-£45m over time, but Man United need more money following an underwhelming campaign which could see them miss out entirely on Europe and finish in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
They will be desperate to get rid of most of their high earners in the summer, but a squad overhaul could prove tricky as generating funds could be herculean.
