Manchester United have confirmed that Antony will be available for selection whilst he continues to be investigated by police following sexual assault allegations.

Antony flew back to the UK on Wednesday after he was granted a leave of absence by United on 10 September.

It was then confirmed by Greater Manchester Police that the forward had been questioned following allegations made by former girlfriend Gabriela Cavallin, who spoke to Brazilian outlet UOL earlier this month.

Antony has denied said allegations, as well as further assault claims made by Rayssa de Freitas and Ingrid Lana.

He said in a statement on 10 September: “I want to reiterate my innocence of the things I have been accused of, and I will fully cooperate with the police to help them reach the truth.”

And now United have revealed that the Brazil international will return to training with the first team and be available for coach Erik ten Hag.

“Since allegations were first made in June, Antony has co-operated with police inquiries in both Brazil and the UK, and he continues to do so,” United’s statement read.

“As Antony’s employer, Manchester United has decided that he will resume training at Carrington, and be available for selection, while police inquiries proceed. This will be kept under review pending further developments in the case.

“As a club, we condemn acts of violence and abuse. We recognise the importance of safeguarding all those involved in this situation, and acknowledge the impact these allegations have on survivors of abuse.”
