Man Utd and Rangers fans think they have the same manager

We’ve been hearing a tonne of these Philippe Clement Eric ten Tag Rangers Manchester United comparisons – Britain’s two biggest clubs north and south of the border, languishing in mediocrity despite being ‘must-win’ teams, and both managers even looking visually similar.

We’re not Man Utd fans here at Ibrox Noise, so we can’t exactly comment in depth on this one, but from what we’re seeing, Utd supporters are asking the same questions of their Dutch manager that Rangers’ are of his Belgian counterpart.

Bonkers lineups, a team with no identity, bizarre subs and even more bizarre press conferences and performances and an over ‘Banter Years’ vibe to what’s happening at both clubs.

Let’s not forget what British institutions Rangers and Man Utd are – arguably they’re the biggest clubs in their countries, and they are absolute must-win.

Utd have been in this midden since 2013 and Sir Alex’s exit, Rangers since 2012 and Walter’s and neither club appears to be coming out any time soon.

But it’s the similarities between both managers both visually and behaviourally which really are being mentioned a lot – obviously we can really only speak from a Rangers point of view, and we’re pretty sure ten Tag spent a few quid in the summer (£200M give or take) but Clement didn’t spend nothing either.

And both clubs’ new signings haven’t exactly got going and their managers look incompetent.

Even more ironically, both managers signed new long-term deals fairly recently, so the comparisons and parables between them are quite striking.

It just looks like both men came from big European clubs where they had success (Brugge/Monaco and Ajax) but have found themselves at juggernauts now where even a draw is the end of the world. And they’re out of their depth.

Ten Hag clearly wasn’t the right guy for Utd, but then none of the bosses they’ve had since Sir Alex have been. And of course that’s down to recruitment.

Rangers are in the same boat – aside Gerrard and Gio, Rangers haven’t recruited managers well at all since 2012, but how do you fundamentally replace Walter Smith?

He was very much Ferguson’s brother in football, two true Blues Brothers, and irreplaceable.

And that’s the pickle both clubs are in now – finding the right monster of a manager to replace the guy who was such a patriarch.

Near-impossible.

And clearly ten Hag and Clement are nowhere near the right mental strength or class to handle clubs of the magnitude of Rangers and Man Utd.
