Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has rubbished comparisons between Sunday's protests at Old Trafford and the attack from ultras on Sporting CP's players.

In 2018, Fernandes was part of a Sporting squad that was attacked by its own fans after a string of poor results.

Wolves duo Daniel Podence and Rui Patricio were amongst the players who quit the club in the wake of that attack, which bears no resemblance to what happened on Sunday, according to the Manchester United man.

"It is not close," he said. "It was completely different. That was between the fans and the players. Here we have no problem with the fans and nothing has happened.

"I don't want to compare and I don't want to remember that. What happened on Sunday is past. All we want to do is play football."
