Manchester United targets Christopher Nunku and Konrad Laimer ‘would be two good signings’, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

The RB Leipzig duo have both been linked with move to Old Trafford in recent weeks after enjoying very productive seasons with the German outfit.

What is the latest news involving Nkunku and Laimer?

According to The Mirror, United have been told they will have to pay Laimer’s £34 million release clause to prise him away from the Red Bull Arena in the summer.

The report states that the 24-year-old has been recommended to the Red Devils’ hierarchy by interim boss and future consultant Ralf Rangnick, who previously signed the midfielder and managed him for a single season.

However, United are set to face fierce competition for Laimer’s signature, with Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund also listed as potential suitors.

Meanwhile, according to Sport Bild, Leipzig chiefs would be reluctantly willing to sanction the departure of Nkunku if their €75m (£64m) valuation is met when the market reopens for business.

Completing a deal for the France international could be tricky for United chiefs, though, as his boyhood club Paris Saint-Germain are said to be eager to re-sign their academy graduate.

What has O’Rourke said about Nkunku and Laimer?

Laimer, who is valued at £23.4m by Transfermarkt, has just over a year left on his contract, so Leipzig could be forced into his sale this summer.

Domenico Tedesco’s charges are in a strong negotiating position when it comes to Nkunku, whose existing deal doesn’t expire until June 2024.

But O’Rourke both players would make valuable additions to United’s first-team squad, and believes the ‘links with Rangnick’ could prove to be useful when it comes to discussing any potential deals.

He told GiveMeSport: “I think they would be two good signings. Obviously, they’ve got the links with Rangnick there because of RB Leipzig; he knows all about these players as well. So, they’re players that he knows and trusts.”

Would Nkunku and Laimer be good signings?

As per FBref, Laimer has ranked in the 99th percentile for pressures, the 96th for non-penalty expected goals and 96th for assists amongst fellow central midfielders over the last year.

And Nkunku, who is valued at £58.5m by Transfermarkt, has been equally as impressive throughout 2021/22, registering 34 goals and 20 assists in 50 appearances across all competitions.

Whether United can fend off the competition for Laimer and Nkunku’s signatures remains to be seen, but everyone associated with United will surely be hoping Rangnick can seal a reunion ahead of next season.
