Manchester United being linked to the likes of Marco Reus and Dani Olmo will get the fans ‘a bit excited’, journalist Dean Jones has told GiveMeSport.

Jones doesn’t believe either player will arrive in the January transfer window, though, and thinks the Red Devils will have to wait until the summer before they can welcome another marquee signing to the club.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed that United have ‘had some conversations’ with Reus’ representatives over a potential switch to Old Trafford.

“I’m told it’s true that they had some conversations with the agents of Marco Reus,” Romano told The United Stand.

“He’s one of the players they considered, they spoke to, so it’s true that they had some conversations, but at the same time, I’m told that at the moment, it’s not a negotiation.”

Meanwhile, Spanish outlet Nacional (via Football365) have stated that United and Bayern Munich have already made an offer for Olmo, although those claims may be a bit of a stretch.

And Bild journalist Christian Falk has informed GMS that Erik ten Hag’s charges ‘are still watching’ the Spain international following his impressive exploits for RB Leipzig.

What has Jones said about Reus and Olmo?

Jones has urged caution regarding the links to Reus and Olmo, though, with moves in what remains of the winter transfer window all but ruled out.

He said: “They’re names that get you a bit excited, but ultimately, I wouldn’t expect players like that to be landing in this window.

“It’s a shame, I’m sure, for any United fan scouring the internet at the moment desperate to see a breakthrough and a player that might compare to the ones that Chelsea have signed, for instance. But I think that anybody like that would be more for the summer now.”

Would Olmo be a good signing?

While the qualities of Reus, who earns £165,000-per-week, are well known, yet Olmo is also a top-quality operator capable of unlocking opposition defences.

The technically gifted star has registered 19 goals and 22 assists in 107 appearances for Leipzig across all competitions, claiming one DFB-Pokal trophy along the way.

As per WhoScored, the £68,000-per-week Olmo has also averaged 1.7 shots, 1.5 key passes and 0.9 dribbles per Bundesliga outing so far this season, placing him in the top five for each metric amongst his teammates.

Reus and Olmo could add some class to United’s attacking options should they make the switch, but it doesn’t seem as though either will be doing so anytime soon.
