Manchester United have a “great option staring them in the face” in Watford striker Emmanuel Dennis, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

The Red Devils have been unable to bring in any attacking reinforcements this summer, highlighted by the only goal in their opening day defeat to Brighton last weekend being an own goal.

What’s the latest news involving Dennis?

According to Dennis’ agent, United were interested in signing Nigeria international 12 months ago, prior to his move to Watford from Club Brugge.

Of course, United ended up bringing in legendary forward Cristiano Ronaldo, but their failure to qualify for the Champions League has left the 37-year-old expressing his desire to leave the club, even though he made his comeback against the Seagulls.

Factor in Edinson Cavani’s departure and Anthony Martial’s recent injury, Erik ten Hag has serious issues up front, which explains why the Red Devils scored just 57 Premier League goals last season.

After missing out on both Darwin Nunez and Benjamin Sesko, Jones reckons that United should turn their attention to Dennis, who could be available for around £20m.

What did Jones say about Dennis?

When asked for an update on Dennis’ future, he told GIVEMESPORT: “I do wonder if Manchester United start looking at Dennis, it seems to be a great option staring them in the face here.”

Is anyone else interested in Dennis?

While United would be confident of winning the race to sign Dennis should they enter the running, the Old Trafford club do face competition for the striker’s signature.

That’s because, according to The Athletic, Nottingham Forest have launched a £20m bid for Dennis, who scored 10 Premier League goals in what proved an impressive first season at Watford despite being unable to save them from going down.

The report claims that West ham were also keen last month, although the Hammers have since signed Gianluca Scamacca and no longer hold an interest.

Therefore, with Watford willing to sell Dennis at the right price following their relegation back to the Championship, United surely have a great chance of bringing him to the Theatre of Dreams if they launch a proposal.
