Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford still has “some way to go” before convincing everyone that he deserves to play every week, says journalist Dean Jones.

The 24-year-old has started in all seven of United’s Premier League fixtures so far this season, including the 6-3 thriller against rivals Manchester City over the weekend.

How did Rashford perform in the derby?

It was not Rashford’s best performance, with manager Erik ten Hag withdrawing him at the hour mark of the defeat.

On the day, the £200,000-a-week Englishman failed to register a single shot (via WhoScored), while he recorded just one successful dribble at the Etihad.

Ultimately, it was a disappointing afternoon for Rashford and his team-mates, who shipped in six goals against a City side who looked unstoppable at times.

The season as a whole, though, Rashford will probably be satisfied with how things are going for him on a personal level. He has been a regular under Ten Hag and has managed to find the back of the net a few times in the Premier League.

What has Jones said about Rashford?

While Rashford has already had some good moments this term, grabbing a brace against Arsenal at Old Trafford last month, Jones thinks the England international still has his doubters.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the journalist said: “For Rashford, that Arsenal game should have been a catalyst for him. You don’t want too much time to pass from that moment to him getting back on the field because those memories of winning that game will be gone and you’re almost starting from scratch again.

“I think he’s still got some way to go until he convinces everyone that he actually deserves to be playing week in, week out.”

Should Rashford be United’s first-choice striker?

You can easily make the argument that Cristiano Ronaldo should be leading the line for United; his goal record obviously speaks for itself.

Rashford, of course, can also play on the left flank. In fact, according to Transfermarkt, it is the position he has been used in the most during his career.

On paper, an attack with Rashford on the left and Ronaldo up front sounds good and is maybe something Ten Hag should thus consider if the former’s goals start to dry up.

For now, though, given that Rashford has turned up in games versus Arsenal and Liverpool, registering against both teams, he has probably done enough overall to remain in the team a little bit longer.
