Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Ralf Rangnick until the end of the season, with his first game in charge set to be Arsenal.

The Red Devils sacked Ole Gunnar Solksjaer after a torrid run of results which saw him having lost five of their last seven Premier League matches, winning just one of those against Tottenham.

Michel Carrick inspired his side to victory in midweek in the Champions League to see them qualify for the knockout stages of the competition, but his rein is now expected to be short-lived with David Ornstein stating that they have an agreement in place to sign Rangnick from Lokomotiv Moscow until the end of the season.

Assuming there are no hiccups, his first game in charge looks set to be Arsenal, who no doubt would have preferred to have taken on Ole.

The Norwegian’s time in charge was inevitably coming to an end for some time, with his team initially believed to be title challengers, but have since disappeared out the top four to sit in eighth place, some 12 points off leaders Chelsea.

It will certainly be interesting to see what side turns up this weekend, when Carrick will lead his side away against the league leaders at Stamford Bridge, before the German boss is expected to take over the helm.

Will the imminent arrival at Old Trafford have come in time to see them resurrect their chances of a top-four finish?
