Manchester United will face Fulham in the FA Cup on Sunday, aiming to defend their title in the competition. The Red Devils will host the Cottagers at Old Trafford in what promises to be an intriguing quarter-final showdown. However, manager Ruben Amorim will once again have to contend with a series of injuries that are set to impact his squad selection, meaning that some familiar faces will miss out.
Unfortunately for Amorim, none of the key injured players are expected to return for the FA Cup tie. Players such as Luke Shaw, Altay Bayindir, Mason Mount, Toby Collyer, Kobbie Mainoo, and Jonny Evans remain sidelined and are not expected to feature in Sunday’s game. The biggest concern surrounds Lisandro Martínez and Amad Diallo, who both face extended periods on the sidelines. Martínez, in particular, could be out for an even longer stretch due to a serious knee injury, making his return a distant prospect. Diallo, who had been in good form, will also miss the remainder of the season.

Amorim confirmed the situation on Friday, stating: “Nobody different is back. They are still trying to recover for the next games.” This news further limits United’s options as they prepare for their FA Cup defence. With the team still reeling from these injuries, the squad that beat Ipswich 3-2 midweek is expected to remain largely unchanged, albeit with some minor adjustments due to suspensions and injuries.
With Altay Bayindir still unavailable, Andre Onana is set to continue in goal, as has been the case for much of this season. Onana will likely have a solid defensive line in front of him, although some changes are expected due to the absence of Patrick Dorgu, who is suspended for this match.
Diogo Dalot is expected to take Dorgu’s place at left-back, while Noussair Mazraoui could step into Dalot’s usual position on the right side of defence. The central defensive pairing will likely remain unchanged, with Matthijs de Ligt and Harry Maguire continuing their partnership in the heart of the defence. Given the limited options available, this stability at the back will be crucial for United in keeping Fulham at bay.

The midfield is expected to feature the same players that helped secure victory against Ipswich, with Manuel Ugarte playing alongside Bruno Fernandes in the centre. Ugarte’s defensive abilities and Fernandes’ creativity will provide balance in midfield, ensuring that United can control possession while pressing forward.
In attack, Amorim will likely field the same front three that performed well in midweek. The powerful striker Rasmus Højlund will lead the line, flanked by young stars Wout Zirkzee and Alejandro Garnacho. These players are beginning to gel well together, and their speed and technical ability will pose a real threat to Fulham’s defence.
There is also the possibility of seeing Chido Obi feature, although the young striker is more likely to start from the bench given the team’s current set-up.
With limited options available due to injuries and suspensions, Amorim’s team for the FA Cup quarter-final clash with Fulham looks set to be as follows:
Injuries: Mount, Evans, Bayindir, Collyer, Heaton, Shaw, Martínez, Mainoo, Amad
Suspended: Dorgu
