Members of the Manchester United women’s team have reportedly been left angry after finding out that the club cancelled the awards dinner ceremony in public.
United usually have an end-of-season dinner ceremony where players from across the men’s women’s and youth teams are awarded.
Prizes such as the Sir Matt Busby Player of the Year accolade are usually presented on that occasion.
However, a report covered by The Peoples Person over the weekend divulged that the dinner was cancelled amidst the men’s tumultuous season.
This revelation came right after United were handed their 14th Premier League defeat of the campaign by Arsenal at Old Trafford.
A 20th-minute Leandro Trossard goal was enough to clinch the victory for the Gunners and pile further misery on United.
Sunday was not all bad for the Red Devils as the women’s team led by Marc Skinner made history as they beat Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley to lift the FA Cup – the first major trophy won by the club.
Goals from Ella Toone, Rachel Williams and a brace by the sensational Lucia Garcia ensured United put Spurs to the sword.
According to The Athletic, the women’s team were not notified about the club’s decision to cancel the awards dinner.
“Manchester United’s women’s team were not told about the club’s decision to cancel the traditional end of season awards dinner until after it became public.”
“A number of individuals in the women’s squad were left frustrated because they were informed of the event at late notice and had therefore changed their pre-arranged holiday flights and bookings, given their season ends this Saturday, to make the dinner only for it to be cancelled.”
“Manchester United say they regret the manner in which the club’s women’s players first discovered the event had been cancelled.”
United insist that the decision was communicated to players across the men’s and women’s teams in exactly the same way.
