Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur are both reportedly on the pursuit of Brazilian goalkeeper John Victor.
The Red Devils currently consider Andre Onana as their undisputed first-choice custodian, despite his occasional howlers. On the other hand, Altay Bayindir has been left starving for playing time.
The Turkish goalkeeper is considered a solid option, but his lack of minutes could prompt a January exit, explains Confidential (via the Daily Mail).
In this case, the Premier League giants will need a new backup shot-stopper, and the source claims it could be Victor who has recently risen to prominence in the Brazilian league.
The 28-year-old is a Santos youth product who joined Botafogo in January 2024, and has been enjoying his most prosperous campaign to date. He made 51 appearances across all competitions, registering 22 clean sheets, and conceding only 41 goals.

Victor’s heroics helped Botafogo accomplish a historic double, winning the Brazilian Serie A as well as the coveted Copa Libertadores. Therefore, his transfer value soared, now reaching €7 million according to Transfermarkt. Hence, the Brazilian champions could be set to make a large windfall on the player who only cost them just above €1M less than a year ago.
Nevertheless, the source mentions interest from Tottenham as well as other European clubs who will be ready to challenge the Red Devils for the goalkeeper’s services.
This wouldn’t be Victor’s first experience in Europe, as he spent the previous campaign on loan at Real Sociedad from Santos. The custodian also holds a Portuguese passport, which would facilitate a move to the Old Continent.
The player’s contract with Botafogo runs until June 2024, but it remains to be seen if they’ll be willing to do business this January which is considered the off-season in Brazil.
