Manchester United handed price tag for Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde

According to the Spanish news outlet El Nacional (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United have received the price tag for signing Real Madrid midfielder Federico Valverde ahead of the summer transfer window. He has seen his minutes reduced under Carlo Ancelotti and could make way for potential summer signings at Santiago Bernabeu.

Real have told Man United that they would need to pay £62million in transfer fees to secure the midfielder’s services. There is a belief that the Red Devils want to reinforce the midfield the most, considering the struggles they suffered in the centre of the pitch.

Los Blancos could decide to part ways with the Uruguayan as they to facilitate transfer for Erling Haaland and Kylian Mbappe at the end of this season. Declan Rice of West Ham United is named to be another target for the Red Devils in their pursuit to bolster the midfield.

Good opportunity?

The midfield has been an issue for quite some time, so the club must address that as soon as possible. It remains unlikely that the Madrid club will sell the 23-year-old this month, given that they are on course to another La Liga title.

But looking ahead to the next campaign, we could really have a real chance of landing the player should he continue to play a backup role at the Santiago Bernabeu. Ancelotti has preferred the more experienced Luka Modric, Toni Kroos and Casemiro over Valverde. We might be able to take advantage of that come next summer.

The Uruguay international’s valuation is a tad expensive but, considering how he performed under Zinedine Zidane we could be getting our money’s worth should he replicate the same form. Just 23, the midfielder has the best years of his career ahead of him and Man United could potentially land themselves a key cog for years to come.

The Spanish side’s pursuit of Mbappe and Haaland could be helpful for us as they might be ready to offload players to finance the big money moves. Should the situation arise, the Red Devils should do all they can to take advantage of the opportunity.

With Paul Pogba’s contract up at the end of this summer, Fred and Scott McTominay’s limitations and Nemanja Matic being past his prime, it is pretty clear why the management should bolster the midfield going into the 2022-23 season. Whether we will finally address the elephant in the room or focus our attentions elsewhere remains to be seen.
