United amazingly took the lead inside the first minute, capitalising on some slack Chelsea passing.

Ève Périsset gave the ball away, allowing Leah Galton to charge down the wing and whip a cross in for Lucía García to head home.

It was 2-0 after 24 minutes and it was another head. Ella Toone whipped a brilliant ball into the box and Rachel Williams met it with an equally good header.

Chelsea were not at the races for much of the first half but did pull one back right before the whistle, Lauren James scoring against her old club.

The second half saw the Blues press hard for an equaliser but they were met with some strong United resistance, especially from keeper Mary Earps, who perhaps wanted to show why she should still be ahead of Chelsea’s Hannah Hampton in the England pecking order.

United held out for a famous win, and will now head to Wembley on May 12th.

Thomas the hero as Spurs defeat Leicester in extra-time

Scorers: Naz 83′, Thomas 118′; Rantala 12′

The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was the venue as the north London giants hosted the Foxes with the winner travelling to Wembley on May 12.

It was the away side who got off to the perfect start on 12 minutes as Jutta Rantala curled in a brilliant effort after only 12 minutes.

Into the second half and Spurs pushed for their equaliser as Beth England went close with a smart effort on the hour mark.

The hosts did eventually did pull themselves level on 83 minutes as Jess Naz burst free of the Leicester defence and finished well.

With just seconds left, Martha Thomas’s effort crawled towards the far post but just clipped the woodwork as the game went into extra time.

Rantala had a chance to give the Foxes another lead in the second half of extra time but her free kick rattled back off the crossbar.

Spurs got their winner right at the death however as Thomas made amends for her miss earlier with a brilliant header in the 118th minute.
