John Murtough not in danger of losing Manchester United hot seat

According to The Express, Manchester United football director John Murtough is not in danger of losing his position at the club.

The club’s ill-advised decision to join the European Super League was met with severe backlash from all quarters. The club eventually withdrew and the breakaway league now looks dead on arrival.

Our withdrawal was followed by news that executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward had resigned from his role at the club. The 49-year-old replaced David Gill for the same back in 2012.

It has since been suggested by certain sources that Murtough will be the next to follow Woodward out of the exit door. It would have been a rather anti-climatic end to the club’s first director of football.

Murtough took up the role with the club only a little over a month ago. It was a part of a backroom shakeup that also saw former star Darren Fletcher take over as the club’s technical director.

The club are ready to put their faith in Murtough going into what could be a pivotal summer transfer window. He is set to play a major role in recruitment and a lot will depend on how good he is at his work.

Familiar with the club!

Murtough started his career in football as a sport scientist at Everton. He followed David Moyes to United in 2013 when the Scot replaced Sir Alex Ferguson as manager.

He served as the head of football development and oversaw the rise of young talents such as Scott McTominay, Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood.

Close to Woodward, he will now be tasted with doing a better job than his ally during his nine-year spell at the helm.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side have shown much progress on the field this season. However, they have also showcased deficiencies within the playing squad that needs immediate attention.

All eyes will be on Murtough as he looks to make an impact at the club. It could very well define his legacy at Old Trafford.
