According to German publication Bild (h/t The Sun), Manchester United are interested in Borussia Monchengladbach star Denis Zakaria.
We will however have to face off against Chelsea and Bayern Munich for the 23-year-old. Zakaria came through the youth ranks at Swiss club Servette before making a name for himself at BSC Young Boys. He eventually made the switch to Borussia Monchengladbach in 2017.
He has since developed into one of the best box-to-box midfielders in the Bundesliga. As yet, he has featured in 96 games across all competitions, scoring 8 goals and assisting six more.
The Swiss international has two years left on his contract at Borussia Park. But he is yet to play since injuring his knee back in March.
Despite the injury troubles, neither United nor Chelsea have lost interest in attempting to secure his services.
It is not the first time that United have been linked with the midfielder. Zakaria was linked with United last season but eventually stayed on at Gladbach.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is a fan of the player and could land him next summer. The Red Devils are seeking a replacement for Nemanja Matic and Zakaria certainly fits the bill.
A major threat to our aspirations of signing him could come from Bayern Munich. The European champions are also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old.
Landing Zakaria would be a smart piece of business by United. The midfielder has the potential to be a dominant presence and will add much to our midfield.
