Man United terminate Sergio Reguilon loan deal | OneFootball

Manchester United have terminated Sergio Reguilon’s season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur, according to David Ornstein.

Injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia saw the Spaniard arrive at Old Trafford in September, offering much-needed cover at left-back.

Reguilon made 12 appearances in all competitions, but with Shaw returning to fitness and Malacia nearing a comeback, United have deemed the 27-year-old surplus to requirements.

Reguilon wasn’t initially United’s first choice. Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella held top billing, but his League Cup appearance against AFC Wimbledon threw a spanner in the works.

Time constraints forced United to pivot, landing on Reguilon as Plan ‘B’.

Shaw’s fitness woes throughout the campaign haven’t been ideal, although his recent return and a subsequent minor knock suggest his long-term absence isn’t a major concern.

Sofyan Amrabat has also deputised at left-back, filling gaps when needed.

Reguilon’s limited appearances mean he remains eligible to play for another club this season under FIFA regulations.

If another suitor emerges, the former Sevilla man could swap red for a different shade before the transfer window closes.

Reguilon would be behind Destiny Udogie and Ben Davies in the pecking order at Tottenham, meaning he must start looking for a new landing spot.

United are moving swiftly in the transfer window as they look to recover from an abysmal first half of the campaign that has seen them crash out of the Champions League and League Cup.

They sit seventh in the Premier League after losing nine games and look a far cry from the formidable United of last season.

United will reportedly focus on adding attacking reinforcements during the winter transfer window, with four Bundesliga strikers on their radar.

RB Leipzig’s Timo Werner, VfB Stuttgart centre-forward Serhou Guirassy, Bayern Munich duo Maxim Eric Choupo-Moting and Thomas Muller are on their shortlist.
