Manchester United have unveiled their plans to pay tribute to their recently deceased receptionist Kath Phipps who spent decades serving the club.
The 85-year-old sadly passed away on Thursday, prompting a pour of heartfelt tributes from the club’s current and past players and managers.
The much-beloved Kath had been a staple at the club since first joining in September 1968 as a switchboard operator and later became our training-ground receptionist. Therefore, her absence will leave an unfillable hole at Carrington.
So ahead of the weekend action, Man United revealed how they plan to honor their longtime employee in a statement posted on the club’s official website.
Ruben Amorim’s men will gather around the center circle to applaud the departed receptionist ahead of Saturday’s home Premier League fixture against Nottingham Forest, while Man United’ Women will hold a similar tribute in their WSL clash against Liverpool.
“Ahead of Saturday’s Premier League kick-off against Nottingham Forest, our men’s team will gather around the centre circle to take part in a moment’s applause.
Ruben Amorim’s squad will also wear black armbands for the match.
Our women’s team will pay the same tributes before and during Sunday’s WSL match against Liverpool at Leigh Sports Village.
Fans at both fixtures are invited to join the applauses to remember our dear Kath.”
For his part, Man United boss Amorim recalled how he met Kath during his intership, describing her as the image of the club.
“It’s a strange thing because I met her when I was here doing the internship, and I remember going inside the building and seeing the lovely Kathy.
“I think she is the image of this club. Friendly, very professional, very respectful, so she is a big loss and you can feel it today in Carrington.
“You can feel it; everyone talks about this situation, and it is a sad day for us.”
