Wesley Fofana not giving too much thought to interest from Manchester United

According to The Express, Leicester City star Wesley Fofana remains unfazed by the interest from Manchester United going into the summer transfer window.

The 20-year-old joined the Foxes from Saint-Etienne for an eyebrow-raising £36.5m last summer. Fofana has since gone on to prove himself a bargain amidst a number of eye-catching performances.

Thrust onto the spotlight due to Caglar Soyuncu’s injuries, Fofana has held his own and has gone from strength to strength. So far, he has made 39 appearances, making one assist. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Fofana’s rise to stardom has caught the attention of United, who are keeping a keen eye on his development at the King Power Stadium.

It is no secret that United are in the market for a new centre-back this summer. Last night’s capitulation against Liverpool provided further proof that strengthening is needed at the back.

Sevilla’s Jules Kounde is the top target while Fofana is seen as an alternative. However, the chances of him being attracted to moving to Old Trafford are rather slim.

An unlikely ally?

A source close to the player has revealed that Fofana is happy at Leicester and is keen to stay put.

The Frenchman for his part is keen to play in the Champions League on a regular basis. Leicester are currently third and could potentially offer him that next season.

“To become a top player, and that’s what he aspires to be, he knows he has to play in the Champions League every year and for now he’s on track to play it next year.”

Curiously enough, Liverpool could yet oust Leicester from the top four if results go their way. Whether Fofana will be open to a switch then remains to be seen.

United spent £80m on Harry Maguire in 2019 and it appears as if Leicester will seek a similar amount to let go of Fofana.

The Red Devils were previously linked with other Leicester defenders Caglar Soyuncu and Jonny Evans. We clearly appear to have a thing for those in Blue.
