David de Gea’s future at Manchester United is increasingly uncertain as the goalkeeper has entered the final three months of his contract at the club.
De Gea has been a mainstay in the side since his move from Atletico Madrid in 2011 but he is now on the verge of being released as no new contract has been signed yet.
Earlier this week, there were developments on that front when it emerged that De Gea had rejected the latest proposal from United, which would see him remain at the club on reduced terms.
It is, however, believed that the Spaniard is still keen on staying at the club and that new rounds of talks will be held before a decision is made on his future.
There is still a possibility that this is where the story ends for De Gea at United and in that event, the club needs to identify targets to potentially replace him that summer.
Porto star Diogo Costa has been mentioned in the conversation but Brentford goalkeeper David Raya is also among the targets, according to reports.
That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, via Sport Witness, who say that United have been impressed by Raya’s performances for the London club as the Reds continue their search for a replacement for De Gea.
As per the report, Raya is among four goalkeepers United are currently taking a look at and he could be the player that puts an end to De Gea’s 12-year stay at Old Trafford.
Additionally, it’s claimed that United’s interest could be down to the financials, as Raya is not believed to come at a hefty premium due to his contract length.
Raya has just one season remaining at the Brentford Community Stadium and there are no indications that an extension will be signed anytime soon.
Last month, Brentford manager Thomas Frank warned any interested suitors that despite his expiring contract, any deal to sign him would not be discounted.
