Manchester United were dealt a major injury concern as defender Leny Yoro limped off during their Premier League clash against West Ham United, just days before the Europa League final against Tottenham.
The 19-year-old centre-back, who has emerged as a pivotal figure in Ruben Amorim’s resilient three-man defensive setup, appeared to pick up the injury while attempting to pass back to goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
Immediately clutching his leg and grimacing in pain, Yoro signaled to the bench, aware that something was wrong.
His early departure cast a shadow over United’s preparations for the final, with just 10 days left before the showdown in Bilbao, according to GOAL.
Yoro’s contribution to United’s European campaign has been nothing short of remarkable. His composure under pressure, combined with his sharp reading of the game, has solidified United’s defense throughout the tournament.
His potential absence from the final would be a massive setback for Amorim’s game plan, particularly against a Tottenham side boasting the likes of Son Heung-min and Dominic Solanke in attack.
As Yoro exited the field, visibly devastated with his shirt pulled over his head, Amorim could only shake his head in frustration.
The timing of the injury could not be worse for United, who have defied inconsistent league form to mount a remarkable run in Europe.
Amorim, who has been vocal about prioritising European success over domestic results, had previously indicated he would not hesitate to rest key players in Premier League matches to protect their fitness.
Speaking before the West Ham match, Amorim stated, “We have to be smart. We cannot take unnecessary risks with our players. If that means losing some matches in the league, then so be it. Our focus is on that final.”

Now, with Yoro’s status uncertain, Amorim faces the difficult task of reorganizing his backline for the most crucial game of the season.
Options include a straight swap with Maguire or a tactical shift that may involve Lindelof stepping into the role. There are also whispers of a potential formation change, with Amorim considering a back four if Yoro’s injury is confirmed to be serious.
United’s medical team is expected to run extensive tests to determine the severity of Yoro’s condition, with updates likely to be provided within the next 48 hours.
