Manchester United and Manchester City set to tussle for Jack Grealish

According to The Athletic (h/t The Express), the chances of Manchester United signing Jack Grealish will be boosted if Manchester City can bring in a capable replacement for Sergio Aguero.

Both the Manchester clubs are keen on the Aston Villa skipper, who is coming off the back of yet another impressive season. The 25-year-old was the club’s top assist-getter this season and also chipped in with seven goals. (h/t BBC)

Now an established Premier League star, Grealish is touted to seek an exit this summer. Villa signed Emi Buendia earlier this week, fuelling speculation of an impending exit for Grealish.

According to the report, Grealish is keen to play Champions League football next season. The Red Devils can provide him just that and are keeping communication lines open while they plot a move for the midfielder.

However, both Pep Guardiola and City director Txiki Begiristain are ardent admirers of the Villa man and could look to act if they fail to land a new striker. The Sky Blues are keen on bringing in a new striker to replace Aguero and appear to be leading the race for Harry Kane too.

An eye for an eye

The Tottenham Hotspur ace is also on United’s radar but it remains to be seen if they will make a move. Kane moving to City could very well pave the way for United to land Grealish.

Given that we have Edinson Cavani, Anthony Martial and even Mason Greenwood who can play up front, it would be prudent for us to prioritize the signing of Grealish. The English international’s arrival will also offset the potential loss of Paul Pogba, who could be moved on this summer.

A major factor could however turn out to be Villa’s £100million asking price for the player. Grealish signed a five-year deal only last year, leaving Villa in a strong position when it comes to negotiations.
