Speaking to United Review (h/t Manchester Evening News), Edinson Cavani revealed how his maturity and instincts inside the box have helped him adjust at Manchester United.
The Uruguayan joined the Red Devils from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.
And with United already boasting of young attacking talents, it was not going to be easy for the former Palermo man to feature for the club regularly. But as it turns out, he is having a great season.
And Cavani puts his success down to maturity. The Uruguayan international underlines the importance of experience and maturity in a player’s career.
“As the years pass by, you feel better in yourself, and feel in good nick and you start to feel that you can really compete, having been constantly involved.”
This has certainly been true for Cavani, who made his mark in the Serie A for the first time all the way back in the 2006/07 season. He is currently in the 15th senior season of his career.
On top of it, Cavani adds that he has also had to work on his game as the years have gone by. He compares the two kinds of strikers inside the box; the ones who are static, and the ones who are smart in their movement.
He then states that he has worked hard in order to become the latter and that his reading of the game has improved over time.
“I’ve worked really hard on anticipating the play intuitively. Looking at my team-mate to see where he’s going to play the pass, and watching the defender [so] I can make a run or a move.”
Cavani has already scored 5 goals this and has assisted twice in his 17 matches. This statistic seems more impressive considering he has started just 7 games all season. (h/t Transfermarkt)
He was also on the scoresheet against Fulham this week as United came back to win the game 2-1 and go top of the table.
