Manchester United star Donny van de Beek reacts after Young Boys loss

Manchester United star Donny van de Beek was handed his first start of the season against Young Boys in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday night

What promised to be an opportunity to shut his doomsayers turned into yet another tragedy for the Dutchman. Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s red card saw Ole Gunnar Solskjaer restructure his side and go for a defence-first approach.

One of the players taken off was Van de Beek, who did not make it past halftime. The 24-year-old made way for French superstar Raphael Varane.

Despite going in with five at the back, United were unable to keep a rejuvenated Young Boys side off their back. The Swiss side won the game late into stoppage time thanks to a Jesse Lingard error.

It must have been especially jarring for Van de Beek who was in fact doing well on the field. According to Manchester Evening News, the player has refused to show any frustration and posted a rather positive message on Twitter.

While there is no denying that the loss on Tuesday could have been avoided, we cannot afford to dawdle on what has happened. The focus should be on what lies ahead and not let one bad result derail our momentum.

Van de Beek appears to be doing just that and is looking forward rather than behind. The sooner we can focus on the games to come the better.
