Tahith Chong set to be loaned out to Werder Bremen

As reported by the Daily Mail, Manchester United will be allowing winger Tahith Chong to join Bundesliga club Werder Bremen on loan, according to club director Frank Baumann.

The 20-year-old Chong has been with the club’s youth system since 2016, having joined from Dutch outfit Feyenoord. Having impressed heavily for the United’s U18s and the U23s, he made his first-team debut in January 2019.

Since then, he has featured 16 times for the senior side in total, managing two assists. While he hasn’t been overly impressive, there have been glimpses of his undisputed talent. This prompted the club to hand him a new contract earlier this year.

However, with the club looking to strengthen the attacking department this summer with the signings of Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish, first-team chances are likely to come at a premium. (h/t Daily Mail)

And now, Werder Bremen director Frank Baumann has claimed that the two clubs are in negotiations over a loan deal and talks are progressing in a positive manner. (h/t Daily Mail)

“That we are in exchange is the case. We are in good talks. Several parties are involved. Some things still have to be clarified and we have to agree. As of now, this is not the case.”

The German outfit want to sign Chong on a two-year long loan deal, but terms are yet to be finalised. However, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is happy to allow him to leave in order to gain valuable first-team experience. (h/t Daily Mail)

Given that he is likely to be pushed down the pecking order if Sancho does arrive, it does make sense for Chong to be loaned out. Hopefully, he is able to make the most of it and return a better player.
