Representatives from the scouting department at Premier League giants Manchester United were in attendance to watch an up-and-coming member of Barcelona’s youth ranks on international duty this weekend.
The player in question? Mika Faye.
The name of youngster Faye, of course, has taken its place front and centre in the headlines in Spain over the course of the last 48 hours.
As much comes after the defender, still just 19, was afforded a starting debut with the Senegal senior national team.
And, safe to say, Faye went on to make his mark, adding the 2nd goal in a 3-0 drubbing of Gabon courtesy of a stunning long-range strike:
This came as just the latest example of Faye’s remarkable talents, with the stopper in the midst of a wonderful maiden campaign with Rafa Márquez’s Barca Atlètic.
Such exploits, though, have seen outside interest from across Europe begin to mount.
During the winter window, Ligue 1 outfit RC Lens launched an all-out assault on Faye’s signature, ultimately coming up short, amid Barcelona’s stance that their explosive young stalwart simply isn’t for sale.
And yet, such a stance has evidently not proven enough to scare off further interest, on this occasion by way of the Premier League.
As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, citing the Daily Mail, Manchester United sent scouts to watch Faye in action for Senegal on Friday.
The Red Devils are understood to have been following the 19-year-old’s development for three months now, with his spectacular strike for Senegal having no doubt given rise to yet more glowing reports for the Old Trafford brass.
