Manchester United have reportedly reignited their interest in Reb Bull Leipzig left-back David Raum, as they believe he would seamlessly fit in Ruben Amorim’s system.
The Portuguese tactician is enjoying a solid start to his tenure at Old Trafford after taking over from the sacked Erik ten Hag during the November international break.
The 39-year-old settled for a draw against Ipswich Town on his debut, before rallying from behind to prevail over Bodo/Glimt in a back-and-forth Europa League contest last Thursday. This was followed by a fabulous 4-0 victory over Everton in his first Premier League appearance at Old Trafford.
But while the manager’s start has been encouraging, it remains evident that the squad isn’t entirely compatible with his 3-4-2-1 formation, with some players having to cover in somewhat unconventional roles.

For instance, the squad lacks players who can provide sufficient cover on the left flank, especially if Luke Shaw is to be deployed as part of the back three. Diego Dalot has been filling this role in the Premier League while Tyrell Malacia proved to be short on fitness in his outing against the Norwegian side on Thursday.
So according to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, Man United are once again following Raum, having already tracked the German player last summer.
The 26-year-old is a left-back who started his career at Greuther Fürth and then rose to prominence at Hoffenheim, earning himself a move to RB Leipzig in 2022.
This season, he has made nine appearances across all competitions, contributing with a goal in the process. However, he’s currently on the sidelines nursing an ankle injury.
As Plettenberg notes, Raum is considered to be the right fit for Amorim’s system. Moreover, his agency ROOF has excellent ties with the Premier League which could facilitate the move. The Germany international has a contract with Leipzig running until June 2026.
