Manchester United to offer three players for Hammers ace Declan Rice

According to 90min (h/t The Express), Manchester United look set to ramp up their efforts to land West Ham United star Declan Rice.

A summer switch could be on the cards, with the Red Devils offering three players in exchange. The trio includes Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard and Nemanja Matic.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a number of options to choose from in midfield. This includes the likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Donny van de Beek, Fred, Scott McTominay and Nemanja Matic.

Of these, Pogba could be gone next summer and Matic is not getting any younger. Van de Beek may yet come good but has so far struggled to make his opportunities count.

In Rice, United would be getting a young yet seasoned performer well acquainted with the league. A towering presence on the pitch, Rice’s leadership skills will also be a welcome boon.

The Red Devils are keen to make their move and are willing to part with any of the three aforementioned players. As per the report, United value the trio at around £30million. They are willing to offer a further £20m to force West Ham’s hand. (h/t The Express)

None of the three players are what you would consider unexpendable. Lingard is already at West Ham, on loan until the end of the season.

Whether the 28-year-old will make the move permanent remains to be seen. Jones for his part has hardly played in recent times while Matic, although an important player, is far from a first-choice starter.

With Frank Lampard no more at Chelsea, United do not have to compete with the Blues for the Hammers star. Whether we do push home this advantage remains to be seen.

Rice recently revealed that he hopes to see Lingard at West Ham for one more season. It would be quite ironical if that happened as a part of the deal that brings Rice to the Theatre of Dreams.
