Manchester United are reportedly willing to trigger the release clause of Fiorentina striker Moise Kean to bring the Italian back to the Premier League.
Kean had an underwhelming stint at Everton, where he scored just twice in 32 appearances several years ago, but has finally found his feet at Fiorentina.
The 25-year-old finally seems to have had a breakout season, contributing 25 goals and three assists in 44 games for La Viola.
According to Sportmediaset his form has done enough to land him squarely on the radar of Ruben Amorim, who is desperate for reinforcements up front after watching Rasmus Hojlund consistently fall flat in red.
Kean has a release clause of €52m which is valid only between the 1st and 15th of July, making any move for him very easy to plan for but impossible to expedite.
And the report claims that the Red Devils are “ready to exercise it”, which would be a huge decision to take given the fast-moving nature of the transfer market.
It’s not the first time United have been linked with Kean, and it was yesterday claimed that they are “back in the hunt” for the player as a cheaper option having missed out on Champions League qualification.
His price tag is certainly lower than other top-tier strikers on the market, such as Victor Osimhen or Viktor Gyokeres, but is not exactly cut-price.
And with many top sides on the lookout for a new centre-forward this summer it is surprising that no mention is made of interest from anywhere else.
The report also suggests that Fiorentina’s failure to secure European football next season could be a key factor in Kean leaving the club, but United are notoriously unable to offer him anything more exotic than an away trip to Newcastle.
That said, United are a bigger club than Fiorentina and the Italy international may feel he has a point to prove in England after flopping at Everton.
His performances on Merseyside will doubtless raise some concerns amongst fans, who have long craved an established and proven goalscorer.
