Hojlund Future in Doubt as Manchester United Signal Summer Sale

The winds of change continue to swirl around Old Trafford. With Manchester United preparing for yet another pivotal summer, one name now appears firmly on the exit list: Rasmus Hojlund. According to CaughtOffside, “Manchester United have set an asking price of around €65m for misfiring young striker Rasmus Hojlund as clubs show an interest in him ahead of the summer.”

It’s a significant development, and one that underlines both the brutal reality of top-level football and the pressure cooker that is United’s recruitment model. Less than a year after arriving from Atalanta in a €75m deal, Hojlund could be on the move again.

Italian Clubs Circle for Second Chance

For all the talk of disappointment in Manchester, there’s still admiration in Italy. As CaughtOffside reports, “sources tell us that Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli are all considering moving for him.”

Serie A remembers the Hojlund who thrived with Atalanta – quick, physical, and lethal in transition. The belief in Italy is that, in a more structured and less chaotic environment than Manchester United’s current set-up, the 22-year-old can rediscover his best.

The question is whether United will recoup enough of their initial investment. “Sources with a close understanding of the situation have informed CaughtOffside that the Red Devils are open to letting Hojlund go if interested clubs pay up for him.” In a market where elite forwards are both rare and expensive, €65m could tempt suitors.

Form, Fitness, and Fair Expectations

Hojlund’s time at Old Trafford has been uneven. Flashes of quality, particularly in the Champions League, have often been followed by frustrating stretches of isolation and ineffectiveness. It hasn’t helped that the club’s tactical structure has lacked cohesion, nor that the midfield has offered little in the way of service.

Still, it’s clear expectations were not met. The raw materials remain, but at United, patience is a rare commodity. And with a new era taking shape, perhaps under Ruben Amorim, there’s a sense the club would prefer to start afresh up front.

As the report notes, “Even if things haven’t worked out for the 22-year-old during his time at Old Trafford, he was very highly rated during his time in Italy, so it perhaps makes sense that big clubs there are still prepared to give him a chance.”

Finances Dictate Decisions

Ultimately, this is also a financial play. United’s books are under scrutiny, and outgoings must precede arrivals. Shedding Hojlund’s wages and banking a sizeable fee could be key to unlocking movement elsewhere. “MUFC will surely need to make changes up front, so cashing in on Hojlund makes sense to give them more money to work with.”

It’s not personal, t’s pragmatism. And in truth, it’s a sign of a club trying to tidy up after years of inconsistent recruitment. If Amorim does arrive, a striker more suited to his stylistic preferences may be on the radar.

Our View – EPL Index Analysis

There’s disappointment, no question. Hojlund came in with a price tag that suggested he was the next big thing, and for a few moments, like his Champions League brace against Galatasaray, you could believe it. But football at this level doesn’t run on moments. It demands consistency, maturity, and the ability to deliver even when the team around you is floundering.

Hojlund, at 22, was probably asked to do too much too soon. United were crying out for an experienced No.9 and instead pinned hopes on a raw talent still learning the game. It wasn’t fair on him, and it hasn’t worked for us.

If Juventus or Inter offer €65m, United should take it and move on. That money could be reinvested in a proven striker who fits the next manager’s system. Maybe Hojlund becomes great elsewhere, but United can’t afford more experiments. We need results now.

And let’s be honest, he never looked entirely comfortable in red. Serie A might be the right place for him, and we wish him well. But at United, it’s time for a clean break.
