Manchester United ready five-man summer transfer shortlist

According to a report from the Evening Standard, Manchester United have prepared a five-man shortlist for the ongoing transfer window.

After having taken the club back to the UEFA Champions League, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is set to be backed once again in the transfer market by the club.

The Norwegian brought in Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire and Daniel James last summer. Bruno Fernandes and Odion Ighalo arrived in January and it would be fair to say that all the incomings have been successful.

That, coupled with the on-field improvements mean Solskjaer will once again enjoy the backing of the board in the market, with a five-man shortlist already prepared. (h/t Evening Standard)

At the top of the list is Jadon Sancho. The Borussia Dortmund winger has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford for quite a while now.

But negotiations haven’t been going as per plans as Dortmund are driving a hard bargain for the 20-year-old. And should a deal fail to materialise, Manchester United have identified Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman as an alternative for Sancho. (h/t Evening Standard)

The third name on the transfer list is Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish. The 24-year-old is another player that has been linked heavily with the club for a long while. His tactical versatility is seen as an asset by manager Solskjaer. (h/t Evening Standard)

However, with Villa avoiding relegation, they are no longer under pressure to sell him, meaning they will demand a massive transfer fee, which could throw a spanner in the works. (h/t Evening Standard)

Donny van de Beek is seen as a more cheaper alternative to bolster the attacking midfield department. The club has scouted him on various occasions in the past. (h/t Evening Standard)

Finally, Solskjaer is keen on recruiting a new centre-half, with Phil Jones and Chris Smalling likely to be sold. And Juventus star Matthijs de Ligt is the club’s long-term target to reinforce the backline, although signing him just after a year in Italy could be tricky. (h/t Evening Standard)

It promises to be an eventful transfer window at Old Trafford. Goes without saying that we will need to bring in reinforcements to push for the title.
