Manchester United star Jesse Lingard eye abroad move after Newcastle United break down

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United star Jesse Lingard is planning to move abroad after talks for a move to Newcastle United have broken down. He was seemingly close to moving to St. James’ Park before suffering this latest setback. With not many days left in this month, it could be difficult to finalise a transfer before the window closes down.

Ralf Rangnick had already expressed to Lingard that he was not in his plans for the remainder of this campaign. As a result, the attacking midfielder was eyeing a move elsewhere with Newcastle in his mind. However, they decided to end their interest after Man United demanded £15million for approving the loan attempt.

That has caused the relationship between the Englishman and the Red Devils to become strained, with his sources close to a potential move to the Toons stating that he was “treated badly” by the Manchester club. He was on the radar of Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United but Ralf Rangnick’s team was not interested in entertaining any offers from their side.

Burnley, Leicester City, Everton and Aston Villa have been touted as potential options for the 29-year-old. The latter three are keeping tabs on the situation, but it seems that he is already planning ahead for next summer. He is looking for a move abroad, with Juventus being one of the possible destinations.

Ugly situation

Since the Man United star will see his contract expire at the end of this season, it would have been wise to move him out without losing him on a free transfer. It is certainly not an ideal situation that we still have Lingard on board with just over 4 days left in the transfer window.

It is clear that he does not have a future at Man United, especially under Rangnick. If he did, he would have been entrusted with at least some league starts, but that hasn’t been the case.

It is still unknown whether the England international’s plans for moving outside England would mean that he would stay at Old Trafford for the rest of the season. There are still teams interested in his services, and while we are not totally unwise to not entertain enquiries from Spurs and West Ham due to them being our top-four rivals, we should have a bit of confidence in ourselves.

If we truly believe Lingard has what it takes to help a team finish above us in the league, then wouldn’t it be better if we put that to use when he is still a Man United player?

If the London-based clubs are putting across a favourable offer, we should be confident in our team’s abilities and sort Lingard’s future this month itself. By the time it is summer, we may well lose him on a free transfer after having paid his wages for the entirety of this season. Only time will give us an answer about what lies ahead as the deadline date will soon be upon us.
