Manchester United player questions Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over Harry Maguire captaincy in heated meeting

According to The Times (Subscription Required) [h/t The Metro], a Manchester United player questioned Ole Gunnar Solskjaer over his decision of making Harry Maguire the club captain.

There has been a lot of animosity in the squad in recent weeks concerning the disastrous performances. One point out of the last four league games would have surely hit the dressing room hard, but the cracks appeared even before Liverpool decided to rip apart their arch-rivals.

The Red Devils lost their first game after the international break as well when Leicester City ran riot at the King Power and won in a 4-2 encounter. After the game, Solskjaer invited his players to give an honest assessment of the recent form.

Some players apparently did not ‘hold back’ as one of them questioned the Norwegian boss regarding his decision to make Harry Maguire the club captain. The centre-back has often been guilty of his lazy play at the back or his lack of pace against the league’s pacy forwards.

In fact, another player also took aim at the lack of motivation of some of his teammates during the training sessions. After this, Solskjaer’s selection policy also came into the frame as one of the players was not sure why the 48-year-old was fielding those stars that were not performing well.

While the squad still has a lot of respect for their gaffer, they are uncertain over the tactical acumen he possesses in comparison to the likes of Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp, and Thomas Tuchel.

Sir Alex Ferguson, who came to United’s training session on Tuesday, also completely backs his former disciple to continue in the job despite looking gloomy in the stands during the Liverpool bashing.

Thus, several questions are being raised, and it remains to be seen if the club takes a big decision regarding this issue soon.
