Aston Villa 1-3 Manchester United: Player Ratings as Red Devils rout 10-man Villians

Manchester United put together yet another come-from-behind win against Aston Villa to keep their impressive away run going. The unbeaten run on the road now stretches to a sensational 25 matches.

United also created a Premier League record for games won after going behind. It was the tenth time this season that they have done just that.

The win keeps the title race alive, atleast for academic sake and City will need to wait a bit longer for themselves to be crowd champions. Or is there a final twist in the tale?

Villa went into the break a goal ahead thanks to Bertrand Traore’s 23rd-minute strike. Bruno Fernandes scored from the spot early in the second half before Mason Greenwood gave us the lead with a neat near-post finish.

The Villians looked to get back into the game but were killed off when Edinson Cavani deftly headed Marcus Rashford’s cross past Emiliano Martinez.

A second yellow for Ollie Watkins killed any further threat Villa possessed as the Red Devils racked yet another three points.

Dean Henderson (7/10)

Little he could do with Villa’s opener. Was largely untroubled otherwise and held his own. Slowly but steadily growing into his role as the club’s number one goalkeeper. Also saved Maguire from the humiliation of putting one through his own net.

Aaron Wan-Bissaka (7/10)

Got stuck in and made a goal-denying block on Ollie Watkins in the second half. Got forward when he could but the final product was largely lacking. Grabbed the assist for Greenwood’s goal, though.

Victor Lindelof (5/10)

Should have done better for Bertrand Traore’s opener and almost gifted a chance to Ollie Watkins in the second half. Must do better in the games to come.

Harry Maguire (6/10)

What looked to be a historic night for the skipper was cut short thanks to a poor challenge on Anwar El Ghazi by Edinson Cavani. Struggled at times against Ollie Watkins due to his lack of pace and earned himself a yellow card in the second half.

Hopefully he will be fine to take on former side Leicester on Tuesday.

Luke Shaw (7/10)

A solid yet unspectacular performance by the Englishman. Ran up and down the pitch and was a menace to Villa down the flank. Unnecessarily fouled Traore who caused him trouble from time to time.

Fred (6/10)

A typically industrious performance by the Brazilian. Was a physical presence in midfield and never stopped running. Gave away the ball poorly for Villa’s opener and was vastly improved after the break

Scott McTominay (6/10)

Struggled in the first half and even gave away a number of cheap fouls. Equally responsible for Traore’s opener. A poor performance by the academy graduate.

Paul Pogba (7/10)

Not his best game for United. Kept the ball moving and won the penalty for the equalizer but a dip from the levels he has been performing at recently.

Bruno Fernandes (7/10)

A lively first half for the Portuguese who was in the thick of most chances United created. Got his just desserts in the second half as he scored his 21st penalty from 22 attempts.

Failed to get on the end of any clear cut chances after that and at times looked fatigued. Taken off late for Nemanja Matic.

Marcus Rashford (6/10)

A largely uneventful performance by the Englishman. Provided an excellent assist for Cavani to kill off the tie late into the second half.

Mason Greenwood (8/10)

Perhaps taken off with the Leicester City game in mind. The youngster was lively on the afternoon and looks to be in fine nick. Gave United the lead in the second half after a good turn and a neat finish.

With his 16th goal, he has now overtaken Wayne Rooney as the top-scoring teenager for Manchester United in the Premier League. Perhaps lucky not to concede a penalty with a handball.

Edinson Cavani (8/10)

Came on for Greenwood after the hour mark. Showed off his aerial prowess by making a crucial defensive header to prevent Anwar El Ghazi from having a free header.

Eventually scored United’s third with a clinical header from a Marcus Rashford cross. It was also his fifth goal as a substitute this season equalling the record set by Javier Hernandes in 2010/11 and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in 1998/99.

Eric Bailly (7/10)

Came on for the unfortunate Maguire in the second half. Was available when needed and looked assured alongside Lindelof.

Nemanja Matic (NA)

Came on late, had little to do.
