63 years ago today, 23 Manchester United players and staff were tragically killed on their way back from a European Cup match.

United were aiming to become the first British side to win Europe’s grandest prize and had jut eliminated Red Star Belgrade to claim their place in the semi-finals.

But after a stop to refuel in Munich, the plane crashed on its third attempt at take-off killing half of those on board.

Some of the fatalities included players Duncan Edwards, Tommy Taylor and David Pegg, as well as coach Tom Curry.

And on the anniversary of the tragedy, United have paid tribute to their former greats by adorning Old Trafford with their faces ahead of Saturday’s game with Everton.
