The speculated arrival of Alphonso Davies in June leaves Real Madrid with a critical decision to make. After all, one of their two existing left-backs must part ways with the club to accommodate the Canadian international, and the decision is not straightforward.

As revealed earlier today, Los Blancos are in a dilemma between Ferland Mendy, who has not put a foot wrong in recent weeks, and Davies who has been their priority for a while now.

Keeping both players at the club next season is not seen to be feasible.

Interest from England

While Mendy may have significantly stepped up in recent games, Real Madrid will likely see more utility in Bayern Munich’s speedster considering his contributions in the final third.

In such a case, Mendy’s departure is non-negotiable, and the Frenchman’s improved performances have not gone unnoticed, luckily for Real Madrid.

According to reports from L’Equipe, Manchester United and Newcastle United are both concretely interested in the Real Madrid left-back.

The option of Old Trafford appeals to the player, but he does not fancy playing for the Magpies.

Meanwhile, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester City have also enquired about his situation. Bayern Munich from Germany are also said to be interested.

Mendy wishes to stay

The French left-back’s contract with Real Madrid runs out in the summer of 2025, and as revealed earlier today, Mendy has no intentions of leaving.

He has been Ancelotti’s trusted option at left-back all season, including the big European clashes, and sees his improvement in form to be worthy of a renewal.

Moreover, he is now willing to agree to the same proposal that he turned down a month ago leaving Los Blancos with a serious decision to make. The final decision will depend on Alphonso Davies’ situation, needless to say.
