Peter Schmeichel has pointed out the goalkeeping problem created by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer between Manchester United duo Dean Henderson and David de Gea

Speaking to the ‘Seaman Says’ podcast (h/t The Metro), Manchester United icon Peter Schmeichel has explained the goalkeeping problem create by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer between David de Gea and Dean Henderson.

The Red Devils have not had the best opening eight games of the season as they have only managed to pick up victories in half of them. Their latest game resulted in a defeat against Leicester City, as they were slammed 4-2 by the Foxes.

However, a positive that has come out this season is De Gea’s recent burst to form. The Spaniard is starting to look like his old self again as he is producing incredible saves. However, his recent form has kept Henderson on the bench, who was touted to be the starting goalkeeper this season.

While suffering from Covid-19 led to him missing out on the start of the season, United icon Peter Schmeichel believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should have never created the situation having ‘two number ones.’ Schmeichel told the ‘Seaman Says’ podcast (h/t The Metro):

‘For me, you cannot have a competition situation on your goalkeeping position. The one thing you don’t want your goalkeepers to do is to go out and prove how good they are.‘We know because we’ve been in that goal, that we are going to make mistakes that cost goals and mistakes that make us look silly. But if you have a competition situation and you make a mistake and you then know the other guy will get the chance then I can guarantee you will make the next mistake because your concentration is gone.’

Henderson only managed to start 26 games last season, with only half of them coming in the Premier League. The Englishman could be the heir to the goalkeeping throne, but De Gea is arguably one of the best shot-stoppers in the Premier League right now.

However, if certain blunders do take place in the upcoming fixtures, it might not be long before Solskjaer brings on the young keeper to the fore.
