Manchester United legend Cristiano Ronaldo wants to play in the 2026 World Cup and set a historic record

According to The Sun (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo is interested in playing in the 2026 World Cup which will be hosted by the US, Mexico and Canada. It is said that he wants to set a historic record which was never been done before.

Ronaldo made his first appearance in a World Cup in the year 2006 when it was hosted by Germany. His long-standing rival, Lionel Messi, also made his debut in the same year and has the same number of appearances as Cristiano in different World Cup editions.

Having four each, they will be joining Lothar Matthaus, Rafael Marquez and Antonio Carbajal, in the 2022 Qatar World Cup, with five, should they stay injury-free. However, the Portuguese do not seem to want to stop with the Qatar edition and is eyeing the 2026 edition.

Provided he plays in 2026, the Portugal international would be making a historic record, having the most appearances in different World Cups. He will be 41 years of age by that time and that would solidify his longevity as a player.

While it seems far-fetched, the forward’s incredible fitness record will say that is not the case. Currently 36, he still boasts a great physique despite hitting the latter years of his career.

In the meantime, the former Real Madrid man will be having his full attention towards next year’s World Cup. And having just appearances would not be in his mind as he would want to attain that World Cup glory.

The five-time Champions League winner’s drive and determination are infamous and has brought him success over the years. And you would not put it against him to not reach that World Cup goal as it would be foolish to do so.
