Manchester United’s struggles in front of goal continued on Wednesday as they were held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at home against FC Twente in the Europa League.

Christian Eriksen’s goal aside, they hardly tested the opposition goalie and have only won three games out of eight in all competitions this season.

Erik ten Hag is under pressure and while he has advocated for new recruit Joshua Zirkzee to be given more time, the Red Devils need to find a solution and fast.

A lot of proven strikers have been linked with a move to the Theatre of Dreams but INEOS are unlikely to spend too much in favour of big names and are likely to try and acquire a young gem who can be moulded into a future superstar.

Max Moerstedt scores his first senior goal

TBR Football have reported that the 20-time English league champions are keeping a close eye on Hoffenheim wonderkid Max Moerstedt, who scored his first senior goal in the Europa League last night.

The 18-year-old came on with 17 minutes left to play and scored a beauty in the 89th minute to help his team grab a point away from home against FC Midtjylland.

He is a U17 World Cup winner with Germany, scoring four goals during the competition and he also won the U17 European championship.

The Germany U19 international’s exploits for Hoffenheim’s academy teams saw plenty of top clubs become aware of his talents, with United being one of them.

Moerstedt netted 33 goals in 35 games for Hoffenheim U19 and was eventually called up for the senior team and while he is yet to start a game, he netted his first for the club in the Europa League and a start is not far away.

Chelsea and Arsenal were present to watch him score and plenty of other teams are also interested and if he keeps performing like this, it is only a matter of time before he is whisked away from the PreZero Arena.

Multiple PL sides chasing him

“TBR sources have confirmed Arsenal and Chelsea are two of those sides with the pair in attendance on Wednesday night to watch him in Europa League action.

“TBR understands Manchester United, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham have all watched Moerstedt earlier in the past 12 months.”

He has a contract until 2027 and Die Kraichgauer are unlikely to let him leave so soon. He is still raw, but has been described “as a player of enormous potential”.

An archetypical target man, Moerstedt stands at around 6’4 and was a former Bayern Munich academy star. Lots of clubs from Europe and Germany are also ready to pounce and it will be interesting to see where he lands up in a few years’ time.
